Congressman Bob Filner says injured and sick veterans are being forced to wait a year or more for decisions on critical VA disability benefits. He says the situation is driving some veterans to suicide. Filner advocates new legislation allowing VA to quickly approve veterans’ applications for disability benefits much the same way IRS approves tax returns; granting all applications immediately and auditing a smaller percentage for accuracy.
